Yoti will be making an appearance at this week’s Sparkle Weekend event in an effort to learn more about the unique identity issues facing the transgender community. Organized by the UK transgender charity Sparkle, the Sparkle Weekend is a free-to-attend festival that promotes positive representation and celebrates gender diversity.
Yoti will be setting up in the Self-Care Zone, where it will be speaking with guests and showcasing the Yoti app, which pageant contestants and Sparkle Ball attendees will be able to use for identity verification. The company noted that its selfie-based Age Scan technology allows users to “represent their true selves” with an up-to-date ID picture that does not require the sharing of any personal information for age verification.
The alliance with Sparkle is in keeping with Yoti’s broader mission to give people more control over their identities, a message that is likely to resonate particularly well with the transgender community. Transgender, genderfluid, intersex, and non-binary individuals often struggle for recognition, especially when official ID documents like driver’s licenses use older photos and indicate a specific gender. Yoti offers a potential solution to that problem, allowing anyone to create a secure, legal ID that matches their own self-image.
At Sparkle Weekend, Yoti is hoping to improve its app and find ways to deliver better service through conversations with the transgender community. The event runs from July 12th to 14th at Sackville Gardens in Manchester, England.
