Zwipe is teaming up with Toppan Forms Card Technologies to move biometric payment cards towards the commercialization phase in Macau and Hong Kong. The two companies will work together to develop new cards, and to market those cards to Toppan’s customers in the region.
To that end, Toppan will integrate the Zwipe Pay ONE platform into its next generation of biometric cards. The Pay ONE platform incorporates a fingerprint sensor from IDEX biometrics, and provides card manufacturers with the software and operating system needed for a single-chip biometric secure element.
Toppan, meanwhile, is a certified manufacturer of VISA, MasterCard, China UnionPay, JCB, and AMEX card products in Hong Kong. The company currently provides cards for a number of major financial institutions both in Hong Kong and in Macau.
“Biometric payment cards can be a lucrative product for us considering the types of banks we have as customers,” said Toppan Deputy Managing Director Joseph Hui.
“Working with strong local players connected to leading issuers in their markets will be instrumental in enabling the scaling of our offering going forward,” added Zwipe CEO André Løvestam.
For Zwipe, the Toppan partnership is one of several commercial biometric card initiatives. The company has been working with IDEMIA to develop new F.CODE cards. It has also joined forces with Masria Digital Payments to bring biometric cards to the Middle East and North Africa.
