Wireless solutions provider CRBT Inc. has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the development of its Siam 7X smartphone. The mobile device is aimed at becoming North America’s first dual-screen smartphone.
Running on Android, the Siam 7X has two touchscreens, one on its front and one on its back. Explaining the rationale behind the design, CBRT CEO Darius Allen asserted that most smartphone makers “aim to increase the functioning of a device while decreasing its size,” adding that while this has reflected technological advancement, “we now run the risk of running out of technological real estate.” The Siam 7X is meant “to maximize space on mobile devices” with its dual screens.
While mobile devices have certain shrunk in size over the past few decades, recent trends have favored bigger screens, as in the case of the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy S6 Edge+. Still, the backsides of smartphones do offer some extra real estate, and it’s possible that users won’t mind having to turn their devices over when there’s a whole other screen to check.
In any case, the Siam 7X has other notable features too, including dual SIM cards and earprint-based biometric authentication, another novel feature that might take some getting used to for users accustomed to fingerprint sensors. The device will also ship with headphones, a fitting accessory given that CRBT has partnered with 50 Cent’s SMS Audio in promoting the Siam 7X.
