GlobalSign has signed on as one of the GSMA’s Mobile Connect Accelerator (MCX) partners. The move essentially brings GlobalSign’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution to the GSMA’s Mobile Connect, which is aimed at identity assurance for SIM card users.
In a statement announcing the move, GlobalSign General Manager Paul Tourret asserted that Mobile Connect “has the potential to disrupt the authentication market as we know it” by offering a universal SIM authentication mechanism to organizations and users around the world. Mobile Connect Accelerator, meanwhile, is a cloud-based service aimed at providing mobile operators with the right platform for their needs; by signing on as an MCX partner, Tourret says that GlobalSign is offering operators a new way to deploy Mobile Connect “easily and quickly”.
In getting so involved with the GSMA’s Mobile Connect project, GlobalSign joins other major companies such as Safran Identity & Security in positioning ahead of the emergence of the Internet of Things, which is expected to vastly ramp up the need for secure SIM solutions. For GlobalSign, it’s a natural next step after having joined the Industrial Internet Consortium earlier this year, where the company is working to develop standards for IT security and testing.
