“It’s an important component of Acuant’s AssureID solution, which combines document reading with facial recognition to verify that a piece of ID does indeed pertain to an end user.”
Acuant has further extended its IP portfolio with the awarding of a new patent for its identity document processing technology.
Entitled “System and methods for remote image acquisition and remote image processing of a document”, US Patent No. 9,916,327 describes a system entailing the image capture of an ID document using a mobile or desktop camera, and the transmission of such images to external web services for data extraction and, ultimately, authentication. It’s an important component of Acuant’s AssureID solution, which combines document reading with facial recognition to verify that a piece of ID does indeed pertain to an end user.
In a statement announcing the patent award, Acuant asserted that it now has more than 20 granted patents, and that its cloud-based and mobile solutions process “millions of transactions globally each month”. Commenting further on the company’s IP expansion, Acuant CEO Yossi Zekri said, “We strive for continuous improvement and strengthening our intellectual property is a large part of that as we continue to experience rapid growth.”
News of the patent award comes just a couple of weeks after Acuant joined the Okta Integration Network, bringing Acuant’s ID verification technology to Okta’s authentication platform for the enterprise.
