Fingerprint Cards Sensor On OnePlus 2

July 30, 2015

OnePlus 2 Features FPC SensorOnePlus has officially launched its new flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2, and, as the company has previously announced, it features a fingerprint sensor. But the company has now revealed the sensor’s make: It’s an FPC1150 courtesy of Fingerprint Cards AB.

The revelation has been long awaited. In its leaks prior to this week’s official announcement of the device, OnePlus has been keen to emphasize the “lightning quick” speed of its fingerprint sensor, positioning it as a trump against the iPhone’s Touch ID system. FPC’s sensors have also found their way into a number of other smartphones, and it’s interesting to see that OnePlus is staking one of its most important selling points on this same technology.

It’s a good bolster for the FPC brand. With its latest device, OnePlus has aimed to make an affordable yet high-quality smartphone to compete against high-end rivals; having FPC technology in the device gives the company a high profile device on which to showcase the quality of its fingerprint sensors.

The integration continues the trend of Asia-based smartphone makers adopting FPC’s technology. The region continues to provide a ready market for the company, and OnePlus is only the latest major brand to integrate an FPC sensor in its new smartphone.
