Mastercard now has a high-profile security expert on its team: Jeanne Tisinger, the CIA’s former Deputy Director, is now a Senior Advisor to the credit card company.
In a statement announcing her appointment to the role, Mastercard asserted that as Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Tisinger “was responsible for the agency’s physical and cybersecurity infrastructure and information technology across more than 100 countries.” Tisinger also previously served as the CIA’s Chief Information Officer before taking on the Deputy Director role.
Commenting on the appointment, Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga suggested that Tisinger would deliver for end customers “the peace of mind that their personal information, money and identity are secure,” while Mastercard Chief Counsel and Chief Franchise Officer Tim Murphy asserted her “experience speaks for itself.”
Tisinger’s appointment comes amid growing concern over digital security as payments and other financial activities are increasingly conducted online and through mobile devices. Mastcard has taken several efforts to address such concerns, most recently with its announcement of a new blockchain platform for B2B financial services.
