QuickLogic, a specialist in user interaction sensor technology, has announced an enhancement in its flagship SenseMe library. The company has improved its Double-Tap gesture detection system.
The algorithm uses a three-axis accelerometer sensor to offer intuitive double-tap interaction for users. QuickLogic believes it could offer a smart solution to OEMs in the wearables space who are looking to make devices that use little power and are highly resistant to dust and water, since integrating this kind of sensor technology can enable them to offer virtual interaction solutions not requiring extra physical buttons on the hardware.
Commenting in a statement, QuickLogic executive Frank Shemansky said the Double-Tap enhancement “is a direct result of our focus on enabling more immersive consumer experiences with longer battery life.”
As more companies seek to compete in the growing wearables market, this kind of solution could offer an advantage to OEMs looking to keep up with the demand for more variety mobile interface solutions, as exemplified by Apple’s 3D Touch technology. It may even come to have other applications in the growing Internet of Things ecosystem as developers seek out low-power interface options.
