Samsung Gear S2 Hits US Market

October 5, 2015

Samsung Gear S2 Hits US Market Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch has hit the US market. It’s now available through Samsung’s online store as well as other online retailers including Amazon and BestBuy.com.

Available in a premium and a standard model, the Gear S2 sports a number of features including a 1.2″, 360 x 360 resolution Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz processor, 4GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM. Like the Apple Watch, it offers a certain amount of user interaction via its rotating bezel, and it also features NFC capabilities making it compatible with the Android Pay mPayment system, which itself recently launched in the US. (It’s designed to pair with Android devices.)

The smartwatch also has a bit of a competitive edge against the Apple Watch in that, like the new LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, it offers cellular 3G connectivity, allowing users to go online without having to route through a connected smartphone. And unlike the new Watch Urbane, it also lets users text and make calls with smartphone pairing.

The standard version of the Gear S2 is currently priced at $299.99 USD, while the premium version costs $349.99. These are competitive prices compared to those of the lower-end Apple Watch models, and given the Gear S2’s many tetherless advantages, it could prove to be a serious rival in the American market.
