“…Samsung has announced ARTIK Cloud Monetization, a metering and payments system that gives developers the tools to track data usage and bill for it, letting a company more effectively manage the costs of running an app connected to its signature product, for example.”
Samsung is making a big new pitch to prospective clients for its ARTIK Cloud Internet of Things platform: Build your solutions using ARTIK, and the system will help you to monetize them.
Samsung first launched ARTIK in early 2016, offering a platform of essential building blocks for IoT products and services. Later in the year, the company started to herald the first solutions being built on ARTIK, while competing IoT platforms such as Microsoft’s Azure were also growing.
Now, Samsung has announced ARTIK Cloud Monetization, a metering and payments system that gives developers the tools to track data usage and bill for it, letting a company more effectively manage the costs of running an app connected to its signature product, for example. In a statement announcing the solution, ARTIK clients Smappee and Legrand attested to the platform’s utility, with Legrand VP of market development Pete Horton saying that the platform helps his company to “focus on our core competency of building market leading devices, while also allowing us to benefit from Samsung’s open ecosystem of third-party apps and services.” Horton added, “It’s the missing piece to the IoT puzzle.”
As the IoT expands, Samsung’s new solution for companies could help it to solidify its ARTIK platform’s position in IoT infrastructure – a potentially lucrative prospect for the company and its clients.
