Sensory, Inc. announced today the release of TrulyNatural, a client-based large vocabulary speech recognition platform. Designed to be natural, fast, scalable, flexible and accurate, TrulyNatural, according to a press release issued by Sensory, “offers substantive advantages over cloud-based solutions”.

Initially released with support for eight languages, with three more slated for support in the coming year, the TrulyNatural SDK is available for Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and other platforms.

“Over the years, Sensory has pioneered many speech technology trends, most recently with our always-on, always-listening speech solution TrulyHandsfree, a technology that many in the industry thought was impossible to achieve because of the difficult requirements of both high accuracy and low power consumption,” comments Todd Mozer, Sensory’s CEO. “We are confident that we have another ground-breaker on our hands with TrulyNatural.”

In addition to the launch of TrulyNatural, Sensory announced the solution’s first licensee, Jibo: makers of a social robot intended for the home. Jibo’s robots are scheduled for demonstration this year and a launch in 2016, featuring TrulyNatural language interface.

“Working with Jibo, Inc. as our premier customer for TrulyNatural is particularly exciting because they have some of the world’s leading speech technologists on their team,” says Mozer, going on to say that the experts at Jibo will be able to fully utilize the advantages brought by TrulyNatural.

“We wanted a natural language interface that would just work, and we didn’t want to be tied to a cloud connection,” explains Cynthia Breazeal, Founder and Chief Scientist of Jibo. “The Jibo team was familiar with Sensory’s excellent reputation from their TrulyHandsfree approach, and when we learned about TrulyNatural, it became an easy choice to work with Sensory.”

She continues, “We find it particularly comforting that Jibo, the world’s first social robot for the home, can process all speech data received by its users internally, opposed to having to be reliant on a strong and stable internet connection for cloud processing of speech.”

Sensory’s low power speech recognition technology is proving to be very popular in 2015. In March, the company announced a solution for the Internet of Things developed with Synopsis. Later that month, Qualcomm selected TrulyHandsfree Voice Control 3.0
