An autonomous driving specialist is going to use Amazon Web Services to power its machine learning-driven computer vision platform.
Based in Israel, Mobileye is a subsidiary of Intel with a team of over 450 engineers. The company is working toward technology that can power fully autonomous vehicles, and has chosen AWS as its “preferred public cloud provider”, according to a statement from the companies.
Elaborating further, the companies explained that Mobileye will build a “data lake” on the Amazon Simple Storage Service “to ingest, process, and analyze hundreds of petabytes of vehicle data gathered from sensors, images, and video feeds.” The companies say that this will enable Mobileye to glean valuable insights that will help it “to fine tune its technology in significantly shorter cycles and iterate on its autonomous vehicle capabilities.”
The news reflects escalating activity in the field of autonomous vehicles and in computer vision more broadly, with cloud computing providing new opportunities to facilitate that development of cutting-edge machine learning AI systems.
