Disassembled ‘Huawei Mate 20 Pro’ Reveals In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

October 5, 2018

Disassembled 'Huawei Mate 20 Pro' Reveals In-Display Fingerprint SensorFurther evidence has emerged that Huawei’s next flagship smartphone will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The latest clue comes by way of pictures posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that purportedly depict a deconstructed model of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. There appears to be a fingerprint sensor component under the removed screen, which covers almost the entire front face of the device when properly in place.

This latest piece of evidence comes a couple of months after a leaker previously asserted that the device will have an in-display fingerprint sensor, and XDA-Developers claimed to have obtained firmware files that also point to a planned in-display sensor.

None of this is definitive proof, of course, but Huawei was in fact one of the first smartphone makers to pioneer in-display fingerprint sensor technology with Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, which launched earlier this year with in-display technology provided by Goodix. While other China-based rivals like Vivo and Xiaomi have also launched smartphone with in-display sensors this year, as TechRadar notes, Huawei’s habit of bringing its Mate devices to the American market suggests that it could be the first smartphone maker to deliver in-display technology to the US.

The Mate 20 Pro is expected to be officially unveiled on October 16th, so it won’t be long before these rumors are definitely confirm, or else proven wrong.
