The rugged smartphone specialist DOOGEE has announced the launch of its new S59 Pro device. The super-rugged smartphone will be unveiled on the company’s YouTube channel on January 5 at 11:00 am BST, and will retail for $199.99 globally. However, the company will be offering a sale on launch day, with prices as low as $139.99 on January 5 only.
The phone itself boasts IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810 G ratings for durability, and leverages a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication. It also supports the use of facial recognition thanks to a 16MP front camera from Samsung. The S59 Pro is built to withstand hard impacts and a variety of harsh environmental conditions, and features a large 10,050mAh battery, a 5.72″ Gorilla Glass display, and NFC support for Google Pay.
The main camera is a 16MP Samsung AI Quad, which is paired with an 8MP wide angle, 8MP macro, and 2MP depth array. DOOGEE itself has only been in business since 2013, and previously garnered headlines in 2018 for a DOOGEE V device that offered in-display fingerprint recognition while mimicking the look of the more expensive iPhone X. Apple has yet to offer in-display fingerprint recognition in its flagship line of phones, though Touch ID did make a return in last year’s iPhone SE.
