“In a statement announcing its partnership with HSBC, FacePhi emphasized that Euromoney magazine recently named HSBC the “World’s best bank”, suggesting that its embrace of biometric technology has helped to burnish its profile.”
HSBC customers will soon be able to log in to their mobile apps via facial recognition, thanks to a new partnership with FacePhi. The latter’s system is designed to let end users authenticate themselves with a selfie, applying facial recognition software to the image captured with the user’s smartphone camera.
It’s another sign of HSBC’s abiding interest in biometric technology, with the bank having also implemented facial recognition and document reading technology last year to let users open bank accounts with a selfie. More recently, the bank launched a voice recognition system to authenticate customers over the phone. In a statement announcing its partnership with HSBC, FacePhi emphasized that Euromoney magazine recently named HSBC the “World’s best bank”, suggesting that its embrace of biometric technology has helped to burnish its profile.
HSBC’s use of FacePhi’s solution will begin in Argentina, where the biometrics specialist also recently inked a deal with ICBC, and ATM network operator Red Link. The country is evidently becoming a central focus for the Spain-based firm, with Argentina helping to lead a mobile technology boom in the Latin American region.
HSBC is the fifteenth bank to have embraced FacePhi’s mobile authentication solution.
