Goodix has placed its fingerprint and audio technology in another 5G smartphone. The company’s optical in-display fingerprint sensor will be featured alongside its Smart Amplifiers, AudioCapture, and VoiceExperience solutions in the new GT 5G device from realme.
The news builds on Goodix’s pre-existing relationship with realme. The company previously provided a heart rate and blood oxygen detection sensor for a realme smartwatch in early 2020, which speaks to its attempts to diversify its portfolio beyond the realm of smartphones. To that end, Goodix acquired Germany’s Dream Chip Technologies in September in an effort to extend its reach in the automotive industry, and bolstered its smart audio holdings with its acquisition of NXP’s Voice and Audio Solutions business in August of 2019. That audio technology has since turned up in Vivo’s TWS Neo Earbuds.
Of course, Goodix is still best known for its in-display fingerprint technology, which has appeared in numerous devices over the past few years. The sensor recently turned up in the Vivo X60, the OnePlus 8T, and in the Reno5 Series from OPPO. The OnePlus 8T and the Reno5 Series also utilize Goodix’s Smart Amplifiers and its VoiceExperience solution, while the VivoX60 takes things one step further and supplements both with Goodix’s AudioCapture offering.
