Goodix has placed its technology in another OnePlus smartphone. The OnePlus 8T will feature the company’s smart amplifiers and VoiceExperience solution in addition to its optical in-display fingerprint sensor. The flagship sensor and the smart amplifiers previously appeared in the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro earlier this year.
Goodix will also be providing in-ear detection and touch control for OnePlus’ new Buds Z earbuds. The same two-in-one solution was deployed in vivo’s TWS Neo Earbuds in June.
The news speaks to the ongoing appeal of Goodix’s in-display fingerprint sensor. The biometric scanner has appeared in smartphones from many major manufacturers in the past few years, most recently turning up in the new Galaxy S20 FE from Samsung. Before that, it secured a spot in the OPPO Reno4 and the P40 series from Huawei.
In the meantime, Goodix has been working to strengthen other aspects of its portfolio. The company acquired NXP’s Voice and Audio Solutions business in August of 2019, and is now targeting the automotive industry after acquiring Germany’s Dream Chip Technologies in August of 2020. However, the move is not Goodix’s first foray into the realm of smart vehicles. In March, the company installed a fingerprint sensor in the new Lynk & Co 05.
