The GSMA has released the official shortlist for the 2020 GLOMO Awards. The Awards will be handed out at next month’s MWC event in Barcelona, during a ceremony that will take place on Tuesday, February 25th.
The annual GLOMO Awards were set up to recognize pioneering feats of mobile technology. Prizes are handed out in a variety of different categories, including Mobile Technology, Connected Consumer, Industry X, Device, and Tech4Good. Each category is made up of several individual prizes. There is also a YoMo STEAM Activity for Young People Award that recognizes up-and-comers in the industry.
The nominees themselves represent the best the tech industry has to offer. Huawei led the pack with an astounding 17 nominations, including a nomination for best smartphone for its P30 Pro and a green nod for its PowerStar Energy Saving solution. The tech giant will be hoping to keep its streak going after winning more prizes than any other company in 2018 and 2019.
Of course, Huawei will be facing some stiff competition during the event. SK Telecom and ZTE were not far off the pace with 10 nominations apiece, while KT picked up seven and Samsung grabbed six, including two for the Galaxy Fold. Athonet was one of last year’s big winners, but did not receive a single nomination in 2020.
The shortlist concludes a nomination process that began with a call for submissions in September. Mobile ID World Editor in Chief Peter B. Counter will once again serve as one of the judges selecting winners for the ceremony.
