The GSMA has formally announced the beginning of the 2020 GLOMO Awards season. Now in their 25th year, the Global Mobile Awards will be handed out at the 2020 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which will take place in February.
All mobile companies are welcome to submit an entry for the awards, with the eventual winners to be chosen by a collection of more than 300 judges, a group that includes journalists, analysts, academics, and Mobile ID World Editor in Chief Peter B. Counter. 37 individual prizes will be handed out across nine different categories, with the GSMA introducing several new awards in an effort to better reflect the evolving mobile tech landscape.
The new awards include the Diversity in Tech Award, the Tech of the Future Award, and the Best Mobile Innovation for Building Trust in the Digital Age. The prize for Best Mobile Innovation for Enhancing Children’s Lives and the YoMo STEAM Activity for Young People Award will recognize technology designed for young audiences.
The GSMA will also acknowledge its own history with the presentation of the 25 Years of Connecting People Award.
“In 1995 we welcomed the world’s first flip phone and today we are about to experience the first 5G-enabled, foldable smartphone,” said GSMA Director General Mats Granryd. “These awards serve to celebrate the ingenuity, innovation and achievement of our industry and I look forward to seeing the very best represented in entries this year.”
The deadline for entries is November 20th. After that, the short list of final nominees will be revealed in January.
Athonet and Fortnite were some of the biggest GLOMO winners in 2019. Huawei will also be looking to clean up for the third year in a row after posting a strong performance in each of the past two years.
