Gemalto‘s M2M module is being used to secure data on a new smart home healthcare hub device called OnKöl.
The device is designed to offer remote patient monitoring for the elderly. Shaped somewhat like a radio, it’s designed to collect data from medical devices and to transmit them to authorized caregivers and family members. It can also track phone calls and offer medication reminders.
Commenting on the system’s use of Gemalto’s PVS8 wireless module, OnKöl CEO Erich Jacobs asserted that “Gemalto’s reputation, wide variety of high quality, industrial-grade modules and breadth of mHealth experience convinced us that their technology was the best fit for our product.”
News of the integration comes soon after Gemalto’s mid-year corporate update, in which CEO Philippe Vallée highlighted the company’s M2M activities as being among Gemalto’s key revenue drivers for the remainder of this year.
