“In addition to Angola’s national ID program, HID Global has provided ePassports for Tanzania, and later expanded that partnership to include electronic visas and residency permits.”
ID4Africa is currently underway, and HID Global is taking the opportunity to highlight its efforts to provide African citizens with official government identities. The “identity for all” initiative has already delivered millions of ID cards and documents, all of which make it easier for the people holding them to gain access to essential civic programs and services.
“Our successes in Africa range from Angola’s voter ID card program to deployments in multiple countries that enable governments to issue national IDs, driver’s licenses, health cards, work permits and refugee identification credentials,” said HID Global Secure Issuance VP and Managing Director Craig Sandness.
In addition to Angola’s national ID program, HID Global has provided ePassports for Tanzania, and later expanded that partnership to include electronic visas and residency permits. The company has also issued student IDs, health cards, and driver’s licenses in several other countries across the continent.
Prior to this year’s ID4Africa conference, HID Global indicated that it would be looking to raise inclusion and extend identity coverage to the millions of African citizens without any form of official identity. The company is specifically looking to reach the more remote areas of the continent, as HID Global’s Africa Sales Director Joby Mathew discussed in an ID4Africa interview with FindBiometrics.
