Innovatrics has added support for another language to its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) algorithm. The solution can now read the Bengali script, which in turn makes the company’s document recognition technology compatible with documents printed in the language.
As it relates to the end user, the update will allow client organizations to onboard new customers with those Bengali documents. The OCR is part of Innovatrics’ Digital Onboarding Toolkit, which uses face and document recognition to match a selfie to the image on an official photo ID. The improved OCR will facilitate that remote onboarding process, since it will be able to confirm the authenticity of a Bengali document and ensure that it belongs to a real person.
The 2016 version of the Bangladesh National ID Card is the first Bengali document that can be identified with the new OCR algorithm, though Innovatrics indicated that it can easily train the platform to recognize other documents. Bengali is the third new language to be added to the Digital Onboarding Toolkit in the past year, and the fourth overall once those three are placed alongside the platform’s original Latin script. Innovatrics added support for the Cyrillic alphabet last May, then followed that with support for Arabic in January of 2021.
