This was the first full week of May, and with it we kicked off Mobile ID World’s mCommerce month, in which we will be throwing focus on the next generation of payment technology enabled by strong authentication and mobility. To start, we published a primer on the topic, highlighting the diversity and excitement that is this holy grail of mobile ID innovation.
On this theme, OTP Bank announced the launch of its mCommerce solution for Hungarian customers called OTPay. Though it doesn’t require the use of biometric authentication factors, the secure payment services is private by design. Thanks to partnerships with Cellium and MasterCard, OTPay leverages the former’s secure infrastructure and the later’s fraud prevention to provide a mobile payment solution that uses QR codes to attribute payment without exchanging any actual account information with merchants.
The rumor mill was running this week in regards to the next iteration of the Apple iPhone, this time with claims that the upcoming device will include upgraded earbuds that can measure a user’s heart biometrics. This particular yarn was debunked soon after, with the anonymous tipster responsible for it admitting to fibbing about the tech scoop. Those feeling heartbroken need not worry, the technology that might not be included in the iPhone 6 is already available as a part of LG’s newest line of activewear gadgets.
Fingerprint Cards AB received a ramp order for its FPC1020 touch sensors worth SEK 18 million at the beginning of this past week. The order is associated with a previously announced design win that will see the capacitive touch sensor featured on a teir one flagship smartphone to be released this summer.
Finally, Mobile ID World had a chance to catch up with the world of invisible biometrics this week in an interview with AGNITiO CEO Emilio Martinez. Peter O’Neill and Emilio discussed the current state of the mobile biometrics landscape, the finer points of spoof-proofing and where voice biometrics fit into a world that is turning to multifactor authentication solutions.
