Nok Nok Releases Faster, Watch-Friendly Version of S3 Authentication Suite

July 21, 2020

Nok Nok Labs has unveiled the newest version of its flagship S3 Authentication Suite. The upgraded platform introduces a slew of new features that are designed to improve the user experience and make the S3 Suite more user-friendly.

In that regard, the new Adaptive Policy capabilities will make it easier for organizations to integrate S3 into third-party risk systems. The utility will allow organizations to audit their own systems more effectively, and to make sure that they are compliant with the PSD2 requirements for Strong Customer Authentication.

The Quick Authentication feature, on the other hand, lowers the number of network connections that are needed to authenticate a user. The tool is expected to be especially beneficial to users in rural areas with less stable network coverage, although it should improve the identity verification process for customers regardless of location.

Finally, Nok Nok is increasing its support for smart watches. The expanded S3 Suite will bring passwordless authentication to the WearOS platform in addition to the Apple Watch.

Nok Nok indicated that the new features were developed based on the feedback it received from several of its top financial and telecommunications partners.

“We are pleased to roll out more capabilities that meet the authentication requirements of our most security conscious customers,” said Nok Nok Engineering VP Naga Nagarajan. “The S3 Suite continues to ease the path to passwordless with the right policy options and integrations regardless of the device.”

“This new Nok Nok release allows merchants to use 3DS delegated authentication, avoiding the need for step-up, even for high-risk transactions — a feature all merchants will benefit from during the current remote environment,” added Aite Group Senior Analyst Ronvan Wezel.

The new S3 Suite will be available as of July 2020. Nok Nok upgraded the platform to enable YubiKey support back in November.
