OneLogin has announced the launch of Desktop Pro for Windows, a cloud-based access management platform specifically designed for a modern workforce with employees clocking in from locations other than the office. Desktop Pro matches each device against a OneLogin cloud directory rather than an Active Directory on-site, allowing for a higher level of security when people are working remotely and are out of range of the office’s local firewall.
“Enterprise work habits have changed dramatically over the past twenty years,” said OneLogin Co-founder and CTO Thomas Pedersen. “Today’s workforce is highly distributed. They primarily use cloud apps and often on personal devices. Active Directory is simply unable to effectively support this environment, resulting in end-user frustration and security risk.”
With the launch of Desktop Pro for Windows, OneLogin customers can now register both Mac and Windows computers. The enrollment process creates a PKI certificate and links it to the cloud directory, allowing users to access their device and enterprise materials using only their OneLogin password.
Companies can customize Desktop Pro to further upgrade their security using several forms of multifactor authentication, including biometrics, push notifications, and one-time SMS passwords, which is noteworthy given OneLogin’s advocacy of password-free technology. OneLogin has previously integrated blockchain technology through a partnership with ShoCard, and was recently one of many companies touting the benefits of passwordless authentication and the FIDO2 certification standard.
