Ooma has announced the latest version of its smart surveillance camera technology for consumers.
Called the Ooma Smart Cam, it’s a wireless digital camera that can operate over wifi and is weather resistant, allowing it to be mounted in a wide range of locations, indoors and outdoors. Its internal battery can typically run for about six months, and features 16GB of internal memory.
As with the Butterflye camera announced by Ooma a year ago, the Ooma Smart Cam also features a facial recognition system that allows it to identify known individuals, such as family members in a given household, and to send alerts to administrators when unknown individuals are detected. And it has a geofencing feature that allows users to configure it to automatically turn off when a paired phone is within the premises, and to turn it on when the phone departs.
Other features of the device include 1080p HD video, a 130-degree lens, two-way audio capabilities, and a magnetic mount that allows the user to easily remove it for charging and then replace it. Ooma says the Ooma Smart Cam will be launched in Q1 of 2019, and will have a base price of $149.99.
