Road2BUP: Mobile ID World Summer Event Roundup

With its speakers already announced and registration still open, Biometrics UnPlugged: Mobility at the Crossroads of Privacy and Commerce is less than three full weeks away. All summer, we at Mobile ID World, along with our sister site FindBiometrics, have been preparing with feature articles, blog posts and interviews intended to set the stage for the big discussions that Biometrics UnPlugged will ignite.

There was a lot of original content covered during the Road to Biometrics UnPlugged summer event, so here is a roundup of everything we talked about in preparation for September 15.

We began the festivities with a familiar topic to Mobile ID World readers: next generation commerce. During July, we took a mobile-centric view of how strong authentication and identity management technology is changing the way we buy and bank, while FindBiometrics looked at some real deployments in finance, how biometrics change banking for the end user and naked payments.

Privacy is a topic that has just recently been heating up in the world of mobile identity management and biometrics. The acceleration and proliferation of mobile technologies, as well as the identity tech that it enables, are bringing privacy to the forefront of discussion. Mobility is an integral part of this conversation, now that biometric identification technologies are available in the palm of your hand. At FindBiometrics the conversation turned to regulating identity and the biometrics we can’t help but broadcast to the world.

Payments, Banking and the Trusted Source

At Mobile ID World, The Road To Biometrics UnPlugged was anchored by a two part interview with BIO-key’s vice president of corporate development, Jay Meier. In part one, the conversation revolves around the difference between mobile payments and mobile banking, pinning down why the latter is turning out to be a little slower to evolve. In part two, Meier talks about what he terms as “The Trusted Source” – a concept that seems integral to developing the amount of assurance required by some of the more revolutionary mobile applications.
