Cerence has added another payment service to its Cerence Pay partner ecosystem. The company’s latest partner is ryd pay, a ThinxNet solution that allows drivers to pay for gas and other goods through a smartphone app or an in-car infotainment system.
The partnership with Cerence will make ryd pay even more convenient, since it will allow drivers to initiate and complete transactions with simple voice commands. As a result, drivers will no longer need to open a separate app, and can instead pay for gas from the car using secure voice biometrics for authentication.
The ryd pay service is currently available in Germany, Swizterland, Austria, and the Benelux economic region, though it will be expanding to the rest of the European Union in the months ahead. The platform has the support of Mastercard, AXA, and Mercedes-Benz, and while it is available as a standalone app, car manufacturers can integrate it into their own virtual assistants to deliver a custom-branded in-car payment experience.
“With the car becoming more connected than ever before, it only makes sense to offer drivers contactless payment for services – whether that’s fueling up, getting a coffee or parking,” said Cerence VP and Apps GM Nils Lenke. “We add a layer of convenience by letting drivers use their voice to initiate payments and ensure security by authenticating them at the same time through voice biometrics.”
“We envision a future where hassle-free, secure and reliable interactions are initiated through all of your connected devices, from your smartphone to your car,” added ThinxNet CEO Sandra Dax. “We are excited to partner with Cerence to bring even more powerful in-car experiences to the roads together.”
The in-car payment providers P97 Networks and CarPay-Diem are some of the other recent additions to the Cerence Pay partner ecosystem. The Cerence Pay platform has also been used to bring voice recognition to the Xevo Market.
