Rumor has it that Samsung has finalized the specifications of the company’s next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S8.
GSMArena and The Mobile Indian are both reporting that the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus will eschew a physical home button, allowing the display on each device to take up most of the real estate on its front face. That will see the fingerprint sensor moved to the rear side of each device.
The reports further build the credibility of a similar rumor reported on GSMArena last month, though they offer no indication of whether the new device will also incorporate an iris scanning system. Samsung had initially aimed to pioneer mobile iris scanning through its aborted Note7 device, and there have been indications that the company would commit to the technology for future devices like the Galaxy S8.
The new Galaxy S8 devices are also expected to feature a new AI assistant called Bixby, and may incorporate directional swipe functionality into the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, too.
