The South Dakota Lottery has announced plans to implement a new mobile prize claiming functionality through its official mobile app, enabling players to claim prizes ranging from $101 to $5,000 without visiting physical validation centers. The initiative follows similar moves by other state lotteries to modernize their prize distribution systems through secure mobile technologies.
The upcoming feature will allow lottery winners to scan their winning tickets and submit digital claim forms directly through the mobile application. The system will incorporate advanced ticket verification protocols and secure payment authentication methods to ensure the legitimacy of claims. Winners can expect to receive their prizes via ACH payment within four business days of submission.
Set to launch in early 2025, the system has been developed in partnership with IGT, a leading provider of lottery technology solutions, and Fjorge, who will provide ongoing technical support. The South Dakota Lottery has conducted extensive testing to ensure a secure and reliable claiming process, including implementing multi-factor authentication and encrypted data transmission protocols to protect users’ sensitive financial information.
“We want our players to celebrate their wins without worrying about the logistics of claiming their prizes at one of our three validation centers,” said Norm Lingle, Director of the South Dakota Lottery.
The mobile cashing system represents a significant modernization of the lottery’s prize distribution infrastructure, eliminating the requirement for winners to physically visit one of the state’s three validation centers for prizes within the specified range. The digital transformation matches broader industry trends toward contactless verification systems and secure mobile payment solutions, offering enhanced convenience while maintaining robust security measures to prevent fraud.
