Vuzix has updated the Zoom and Webex video conferencing applications for its M-series of smart glasses. The updates are specifically geared towards the healthcare industry, and reflect the input of medical professionals who have been using the M400 glasses to stream surgery and treat patients in emergency rooms and ICUs.
With the new improvements, Webex users will be able to customize their welcome screen to get rid of buttons they rarely use. They will also no longer need a new link to rejoin a meeting that is still in progress, and will instead be able to take advantage of a re-dial function. The application utilizes speech recognition to enable hands-free voice controls.
Other new features include auto-focus and zoom utilities, and the ability to optimize a video stream in 4K.
“Our M400 Smart Glasses continue to grow in acceptance and use cases across telemedicine, healthcare and now the emergency room and ICU,” said Vuzix President and CEO Paul Travers.
“We look forward to further augmenting our platform based on user feedback in the field.”
Both Webex and Zoom are available through the Vuzix App Store, though both services require a separate subscription. In Zoom’s case, healthcare professionals must go with the Zoom for Healthcare option to remain compliant with HIPAA and PIPEDA privacy regulations.
Zoom debuted on the Vuzix App Store back in January. Vuzix itself has since augmented the M400 glasses with thermal imaging technology to help watch for signs of COVID-19.
