Apple Pay is getting a boost in support in the US and the UK, in ways both traditional and innovative.
The traditional support comes in the US market as over 20 additional banks add their support for the mPayment platform. As usual, with most of the country’s major banks already in its large roster of supporters, the new partners are generally smaller regional institutions such as Fairfield County Bank and Peoples State Bank of Munising.
The new UK support is of a different nature. A new app called Boon offers users a digital prepaid MasterCard, which can be added to Apple Pay. Developed by Wirecard, the app was only available on Android until its iOS launch today.
For holdout banks struggling against the market disruption brought about by mPayment platforms, the Boon support could offer further incentive – more stick than carrot – to come around and enable Apple Pay support. In any case, it should get a few more users trying out the platform in the UK.
