Gemalto, Huawei Team Up to Offer Easy IoT Connectivity

November 28, 2016

Gemalto and Huawei have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate the former’s LinqUs On-Demand Connectivity (ODC) platform with Huawei’s OceanConnect IoT platform. According to a statement from the companies, the move will let Huawei’s clients “connect to any mobile operator of their choice, anytime and anywhere in the world.”Gemalto, Huawei Team Up to Offer Easy IoT Connectivity

It’s a move reflecting both companies’ overlapping interests. With Linqus ODC, Gemalto has been positioning to be a key eSIM connectivity provider for the emerging Internet of Things; Huawei, meanwhile, announced its intention to offer industry-wide IoT collaboration earlier this year, and recently announced a major network connectivity milestone with partner Telus that could help to raise its profile as an IoT solutions provider. This Gemalto partnership should help do the same.

Commenting on the MoU, Huawei Cloud Core Network Marketing Execution President Zhang Qin said his company “is accelerating growth at full throttle in the cloud and IoT space,” and that the Linqus ODC integration will enable Huawei “to fulfill the commitment of providing flexible, scalable IoT services to all our customers worldwide.” Meanwhile, Gemalto Greater China & Korea President Suzanne Tong-Li suggested its going to be a long-term commitment, saying “the partnership will open a new chapter of close collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two companies.”
