Cerence has shared more details about some of the products being unveiled at today’s Cerence in Motion launch event. The full lineup includes new Cloud Services, new Mobility Platforms, and the second iteration of the Cerence Drive platform for conversational AI.
Of the three, Cerence Drive 2.0 may be the most noteworthy because it serves as the foundation for the company’s entire smart mobility portfolio. Cerence Drive 2.0 is the result of a full platform restructuring, and brings hybrid embedded and cloud capabilities together in one unified (and scalable) software stack.
That technology will in turn be used to bring virtual assistants to a wider array of vehicles, and to other areas of the transportation industry. In that regard, Cerence in Motion will feature a new Cerence Mobility Platform for two-wheeled vehicles, and a separate (and more unconventional) Mobility Platform that addresses Building Mobility.
Finally, Cerence will also introduce improved Cerence Cloud Services, which will enable new IoT integrations with smartphones, smart homes, and other devices. Those applications will allow Cerence drivers to use their voice to access various aspects of their digital lives.
“As we look at connected mobility, not just in automotive but in growing and changing segments, the need for state-of-the-art, cloud-fluent products that meet a wide variety of needs for OEMs and consumers alike is clear,” said Cerence CEO Sanjay Dhawan. “Through integration of our embedded and cloud AI technologies, we’re delivering a first-of-its-kind hybrid yet cloud-native approach to modern mobility across the transportation ecosystem.”
The last major Cerence Drive update arrived in December of 2019, shortly after Cerence was spun off as an independent entity. The company has since released a Cerence Studio platform that allows car manufacturers to develop their own branded in-car assistants, as well as a Cerence Look solution that provides drivers with more information about the outside world. Cerence technology also appeared in the two-wheeled A1 Pro Smart Electric Scooters from 70mai in September.
