The FIDO Alliance has been working with Taiwan-based facial and iris recognition specialist Egis Technology to spread the word about strong authentication in Asia, with the organizations having jointly organized last week’s 2018 FIDO Taipei Seminar.
Carrying the slogan, “No More Passwords”, the event featured the participation of a number of firms including GoTrust, AuthenTrend, TWCA, Kiwi Technology, NTT DOCOMO, Next Bank, and Microsoft. Multiple participants showcased FIDO-based deployments, and FIDO Alliance Executive Director Brett McDowell was on hand to provide an overview of the FIDO Alliance and what it does.
In a statement, Egis Technology asserted that “FIDO wants to heighten interest among Taiwanese government departments and stakeholders in the technologies and facilitate their widespread adoption” in the country.
It’s part of a broader focus on the Asia region on FIDO’s part, with the Alliance having launched the FIDO Japan Working Group at the end of 2016 and the FIDO Korea Working Group a year after that. The FIDO Alliance hasn’t yet announced a Working Group specifically for Taiwan, but in any case it already has a strong partner to lead its outreach in that specific market in Egis Technology, which joined FIDO’s Board of Directors way back in 2015.
