Suprema has announced the launch of its new X-Station 2 access control terminal. The company previewed the solution at its Partner Summit in February, and has now followed through on its promise to deliver the terminal in the first half of 2021.
The X-Station 2 was designed to give venue operators more flexibility when it comes to their access control setups. To that end, the terminal offers support for several different kinds of credentials, covering everything from traditional authenticators like RFID cards and PIN codes to more modern options like QR codes, barcodes, and mobile devices.
That variety gives operators the ability to configure the system to use different credentials for different individuals. For example, employees can swipe in with a mobile device or an RFID card, while visitors can be issued a QR code to present when they arrive. The X-Station 2 can also be integrated with Suprema’s BioStar 2 (or another time and attendance management system) to automate certain administrative procedures. Most notably, the system will mark the time when an employee arrives, and track details like vacation days and store credits.
The X-Station 2 is compatible with iOS and Android phones, and uses NFC and Bluetooth tech to communicate with those mobile devices. The QR codes and barcodes can read up to 32 ASCII code strings, while the RFID option supports EM, MIFARE, iCLASS, DESFire and FeliCa cards. Other terminal features include a 4-inch touchscreen, an IP65 rating, and built-in cameras that can help generate an auditable, image-backed record of login events.
“X-Station 2 is a versatile terminal that can be installed in any facilities with time and attendance, visitor management and access control needs,” said Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim. “Its mobile credential options can also satisfy contactless and non-face-to-face needs.”
The BioStar 2 platform received ISO certification in December. Suprema itself was named as the top provider of mobile access solutions in a recent survey conducted by A&S Magazine.
