Yoti’s Identity Tech Satisfies HIPAA Security and Privacy Requirements

May 20, 2020

An independent auditor has evaluated Yoti’s identity technology and determined that it satisfies HIPAA’s security and privacy requirements. The assessment should clear the way for healthcare organizations that are looking to streamline their operations with digital identities.

Yoti's Identity Tech Satisfies HIPAA Security and Privacy Requirements

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was initially passed in 1996, and establishes strict guidelines for the storage and use of personal information in the healthcare industry. The Yoti assessment was carried out by Corporate Prime Solutions.

Of course, the news is not all that surprising given Yoti’s longstanding commitment to privacy. The company has repeatedly noted that its solution allows people to verify their identity (or their age) without forcing them to disclose any other personally identifying information.

With that in mind, the latest HIPAA assurances should increase the appeal of Yoti’s technology, especially as public officials look for solutions that could allow venues to reopen in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As it stands, Yoti is already issuing digital IDs to NHS employees in the UK, and the company is now working with GeneMe to deliver discreet immunity credentials that would allow people to share the results of a COVID-19 test. Users would not need to reveal any other personal or medical information to share those results and confirm their status.
