Yubico’s YubiKeys will now be available on a subscription basis through the AWS Marketplace. Organizations that are interested in the service can add a three-year Software-as-a-Service (Saas) subscription to their existing Amazon Web Services (AWS) contract, which will in turn make it easier for those organizations to procure and distribute Yubico’s security keys.
In that regard, the arrangement is virtually identical to the Microsoft Azure Marketplace subscription program that Yubico launched in 2021. That program also makes YubiKeys available for a three-year term.
In Amazon’s case, the Yubico subscription will count toward an organization’s consumption commitment for the AWS service, and simplify contract and invoicing procedures for AWS clients. For example, the arrangement will allow organizations to use the same billing information to procure YubiKeys that they are already using with Amazon.
“YubiKey authentication subscriptions on AWS Marketplace support multiple authentication protocols like FIDO2 and WebAuthn, allowing it to work with both legacy and modern cloud-based infrastructures,” said AWS Category Management Director Mona Chadha. “Our collaboration with Yubico makes the multi-factor authentication hardware security key easy for customers to procure via AWS Marketplace at a time when cybersecurity risks are more prominent than ever.”
Clients that are interested in the Yubico SaaS offering can choose from a number of different YubiKey models and form factors, including the YubiKey 5 and YubiKey 5 FIPS Series. They may also have access to select upgrades and other benefits through the program.
Yubico itself makes its products available through multiple channels, and already offers its own YubiEnterprise Subscription and Delivery services. Those services were first announced in May of 2020, and the Delivery service, in particular, now offers coverage for 49 countries as of November of 2021. The YubiKeys enable secure multi-factor authentication, and can help eliminate some of the vulnerabilities associated with password-based security.
