The GSMA is celebrating a very successful Mobile World Congress.
In a statement, the MNO association congratulated the winners of MWC’s Glomo Awards, which saw 170 nominees from a field of 930 entrants. Among the winners were such innovators as Vodafone M-Pesa Ltd., in the category of Best Mobile Payment Solution; Samsung for its Galaxy S6 Edge, in the category of Best Smartphone 2015; and Orange Spain for its Mobile Connect solution, developed in collaboration with Telefonica and Vodafone Spain and winning in the category of “Mobile Connect Award for Authentication & Identity”. The Glomo Awards also recognized six India-based MNOs – Aircel, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Tata Teleservices, Telenor, and Vodafone – for their work supporting the GSMA Mobile Connect authentication platform.
It wasn’t just the talent on display that made this year’s MWC particularly successful, though – it was also the attendees, who surpassed 100,000 in number for the first time. Commenting in a statement, GSMA Ltd. CEO John Hoffman called it “a significant milestone,” adding, “We once again enjoyed a tremendously stimulating show, featuring a world-class speaker line-up and a range of cutting-edge product launches that will set the tone for the mobile industry for the remainder of the year and beyond.”
