Samsung Pay had two huge launches last week—in Australia and Singapore—as Samsung and Citibank focus on bringing the mobile wallet to all of the APAC region. The company also was in the biometrics smartphone integration news with the announcement that Egis’ fingerprint sensor has been built into the Galaxy A5 handset.

Samsung rival, Apple, had biometrics focused headlines too, with news coming from this year’s WWDC. Siri has been opened up to third-party developers in a necessary move to keep up with competitors in the voice AI assistant race emerging around the Internet of Things, and Apple announced new face recognition features for its photo app. Apple Pay was in the news too, with newly released research showing that digital marketing can boost the wallet’s use rate at vending machines, and an update on the service’s inevitable jump to the world of online shopping. Finally, rumors continue to swirl around the inclusion of Touch ID on upcoming Macbooks, stoked recently by new findings in the code of newly released developer resources.

There were a ton of smartphone biometric sensor integrations announced last week, with FPC and Precise Biometrics finding their technology launched on handsets from OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Meitu. Delta ID, the company responsible for bringing iris biometrics to consumer mobile devices, was recognized for its success last week, named among Red Herring’s Top 100 North American Companies.
